Spotted in recent track testing at the Nürburgring, the Model Y Juniper Performance prototype featured a prominent, extended rear spoiler. This design echoes the Model 3 Performance and aims to improve aerodynamic efficiency at high speeds, while giving the SUV a more aggressive stance.

New 21-Inch Wheels

The vehicle appears to sit on bold 21-inch wheels, resembling the Arachnid rims used on the Model S/X Plaid. These wheels likely incorporate a staggered setup—wider in the rear than in the front—suggesting a focus on performance handling. If the rumors are true, they will be crafted from lightweight alloys for better responsiveness.

Pirelli P Zero Tires

This would allow the car to shift from a comfortable daily driver to a stiff, responsive machine for spirited driving.


Powertrain, Interior, and Driving Dynamics

The Juniper Performance is expected to feature Tesla’s dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with an output of approximately 510 horsepower. This could enable a 0–60 mph sprint in around 3.2 seconds, compared to the current Model Y Performance’s 3.5 seconds. Torque is estimated at 554 lb-ft, and the battery is likely to remain at 79 kWh, offering a projected range near 290 miles (466 km) per charge.

Inside, the cabin is expected to include updates borrowed from the Model 3 Highland and other Juniper trims: a 15.4-inch central display, an 8-inch rear display, ambient lighting, and new seat materials. Performance versions may also include bolstered sport seats for better lateral support during dynamic driving.

Interestingly, the prototype maintains standard Model Y bumpers, unlike the Model 3 Performance which receives a unique front-end treatment. This could suggest Tesla is emphasizing function over form, reserving cosmetic overhauls for future revisions or efficiency in production.


Market Outlook and Release Expectations

While official timelines remain elusive, industry chatter points to a Q4 2025 launch, with pricing expected to start around $55,000—roughly $7,000 more than the Long Range AWD version. Some analysts speculate that initial rollout may focus on markets like China and Australia, before hitting North America and Europe.

As anticipation builds, the Juniper Performance could strengthen Tesla’s leadership in the performance EV segment, combining thrilling speed with everyday practicality.
