Tesla has officially launched the larger Model Y L in the U.S., introducing a Limited Edition Premium AWD Launch Series packed with exclusive features and a brand-new set of 20’’ Uberhelix wheels. The six-seat SUV starts at $61,990 and fills the gap between the standard Model Y and the much more expensive Model X. Early reactions from Tesla fans suggest this could become one of the brand’s most important family vehicles yet.

The New 20’’ Uberhelix Wheels Give Buyers Another Premium Option

One of the biggest visual highlights is the introduction of Tesla's new 20’’ Uberhelix wheels. Drivers choosing this setup get an estimated 320 miles of range, while the standard 19-inch wheels push the range up to 325 miles.
The difference is minimal, giving buyers more freedom to prioritize style without sacrificing much efficiency. For many Tesla owners, the new wheel design could become one of the most desirable options on the larger Model Y L.
A True Six-Seat Family SUV

Unlike the standard Model Y, the new Model Y L uses a three-row, six-seat layout with second-row captain's chairs. Those seats are heated, ventilated, electrically adjustable, and feature powered armrests.
The third row also receives meaningful upgrades, including heated seats, dedicated air vents, cupholders, and electric folding mechanisms. Tesla clearly designed this model for larger families rather than occasional third-row use.
At 196 inches long, the Model Y L stretches seven inches beyond the regular Model Y, creating more space without moving into full-size SUV territory.
Premium Features Bring It Closer to Model X Territory
Tesla packed the Model Y L with several upgrades that were previously reserved for higher-end vehicles. Front seats include powered thigh extensions, adjustable headrests, and ventilation functions.
The vehicle also features a second-generation suspension system with continuous variable damping, helping deliver a smoother ride for passengers across all three rows. Other premium touches include RGB ambient lighting, silver-coated glass for improved heat rejection, HEPA air filtration, and 360-degree acoustic glass.
For buyers who want luxury features without stepping up to a Model X, the Model Y L offers a compelling middle ground.
Battery, Range, and PowerShare Details Confirmed
Early reports suggested the U.S. version would use an 88 kWh battery and exclude PowerShare support. Tesla later confirmed that the American Model Y L actually comes with an 83 kWh battery pack and includes PowerShare functionality.
The SUV maintains a respectable 0–60 mph time of 4.4 seconds while supporting peak Supercharging speeds of up to 250 kW. Vehicle-to-load capability is also included, and every Launch Series model ships with a V2L adapter.
These features make the Model Y L practical for road trips, outdoor activities, and family adventures.
Early Community Reactions Are Overwhelmingly Positive
The response from Tesla fans has been largely enthusiastic. Many owners say they have been waiting years for a larger Tesla that sits between the Model Y and Model X.
Some current Tesla drivers plan to upgrade once their leases expire or if Tesla reopens FSD transfer programs. Others see the Model Y L as the perfect replacement for traditional three-row family SUVs from Toyota, Honda, and Kia.
Deliveries in the United States are expected to begin in September, with initial estimates currently showing a September to October delivery window. If demand matches early reactions, the Model Y L could quickly become Tesla's next family favorite.
