Tesla may have just revealed another major step toward its autonomous driving future.
In a post on X, Elon Musk shared a short but attention-grabbing statement:
“Cybercab driving itself out of the GigaTexas factory.”
Shortly after, Ashok Elluswamy replied with an even bigger hint about what comes next:
“Soon it’ll be driving itself in to Austin city, reporting for duty!”

The exchange immediately sparked excitement across the Tesla community because it suggests Tesla’s fully autonomous Cybercab program is moving beyond factory grounds and closer to real-world city deployment.
For months, Tesla has been quietly expanding its Robotaxi and unsupervised Full Self-Driving testing efforts around Austin, Texas. Reports have already indicated that Tesla has widened its autonomous driving geofence across parts of the city, including more complex downtown areas.
Now, Ashok’s latest comment appears to hint that Tesla vehicles may soon begin autonomously traveling directly between Gigafactory Texas and Austin streets without human intervention.
That would represent a significant milestone for Tesla’s long-term Robotaxi vision.
The Cybercab itself was designed specifically for autonomous transportation, featuring a steering wheel-free interior focused entirely on AI-based driving. Elon Musk has repeatedly described the vehicle as a key part of Tesla’s future transportation network.
While Tesla has not officially announced a public launch timeline, the messaging from both Musk and Ashok strongly suggests internal confidence is growing rapidly.
Austin continues to be the center of Tesla’s autonomous ambitions, with Gigafactory Texas serving as the testing ground for next-generation AI, Robotaxi operations, and future mobility systems.
If Cybercabs truly begin driving themselves from Giga Texas into Austin streets soon, it could become one of the clearest real-world demonstrations yet of Tesla’s push toward fully autonomous transportation.
