Tesla Sets a Date for First Cybertruck Deliveries, but Volume Production Is Not Expected for Some Time.

According to a Tesla business post on X (previously Twitter), the Tesla Cybertruck now has a delivery date. Along with its third-quarter earnings, Tesla revealed that the long-delayed Cybertruck electric pickup will make its debut on November 30th at the company's Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The business is also anticipated to reveal pricing, which was initially set at $39,900 when it was first revealed in 2019.

On Tesla's Q3 earnings call on Wednesday evening, CEO Elon Musk stated that he wanted to "temper expectations" because the Cybertruck manufacturing ramp-up will be incredibly challenging. Tesla is aiming for a quarter million Cybertrucks every year in the future, but that won't happen until around 2024, according to Musk, who also verified that more than 1 million customers had reserved the truck.

As Musk said, "Cybertruck'sΒ one of those special products that comes along only once in a long while."Β This rarity is exactly why ramping up production will be so challenging. "And special products that come along once in a long while are just incredibly difficult to bring to market, to reach volume, and to be prosperous," Musk continued. "It's fundamental to the nature of the newness."

So how long will it take production volume to ramp up to meaningful levels? Musk projected that it would take around 18 months.

If past Tesla delivery events are any guide, we can expect only a small number of Cybertrucks to be initially delivered to customers, likely Tesla employees. This would allow the company to get the electric truck out into the real world for more testing while it focuses on ramping up production volume.
