The Government Agency has rejected critics' objections to Tesla's Giga

The Brandenburg State Office of the Environment has dismissed objections to Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin expansion plans. This was a win for the electric vehicle manufacturer.

According to statements made at a recent public discussion regarding the plans, Tesla hopes to begin expansions on its Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany, early next year.

According to a Tuesday report in the German journal RBB 24, a Tesla spokeswoman stated that the company hopes to begin plant expansions at the Brandenburg location in the first half of 2024. The additions will begin with a modernization of the existing factory and the construction of a water recycling plant, followed by plans to add a second production facility and a battery recycling plant in the following years.

Tesla has revised its expansion plans to expand vehicle production capacity from 500,000 to 1 million vehicles per year.
In addition, the company intends to raise yearly battery cell output by 50 gigawatt hours to 100 GWh.
Local environmental organizations have expressed concern about the resources Tesla will require to enhance production, particularly water.
According to a BZ investigation, Giga Berlin already uses less water than a huge asparagus farm in the neighborhood.
In August, the Strausberg-Erkner Water Association (WSE) rejected Tesla's expansion plans, citing the company's purported inability to produce the requisite water volume. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed support for Giga Berlin's production growth.

"The discussion is a farce. Of course, we cannot check how significant thechanges are," said Michael Ganschow, the state manager of the Green Leaque.

Ganschow was referring to Tesla's application paperwork, some of which were blacked out. The State Office of the Environment hearing was based on the documents.
However, Andre Zschiegner of the State Office of the Environment, who conducted the meeting about the expansion of Giga Berlin, indicated that Tesla's revisions to its documentation are lawful.
