Tesla Upgrades Standard Model Y With 16-Inch Display and Black Headliner

Tesla Upgrades Standard Model Y With 16-Inch Display and Black Headliner

Tesla has quietly completed another meaningful upgrade for the base Model Y lineup in North America.

According to updates now reflected on Tesla’s official North American configurator, both lower-priced Model Y variants—including the affordable AWD Model Y and RWD Model Y—have officially received interior upgrades, bringing the same 16-inch center display and black headliner previously reserved for higher-end trims.

With this update, the value proposition of the entry-level Model Y becomes even stronger.

Entry-Level No Longer Means Compromised

A closer look at Tesla’s latest North American configuration shows that both affordable Model Y trims now share the upgraded interior layout introduced on premium refreshed versions.

Owners can now enjoy:

  • Larger 16-inch center touchscreen
  • Sharper 2K display resolution
  • Faster and smoother system response
  • Premium-style black headliner for a more modern cabin atmosphere

These changes help eliminate one of the most noticeable differences between entry and premium configurations.

Global Model Y Lineup Now Moves to a Unified Interior Standard

Europe was the first market where lower-priced Model Y variants received the 16-inch screen and black roof liner treatment.

Earlier this year, refreshed Model Y vehicles produced at Gigafactory Shanghai also transitioned to the upgraded interior.

Now, with North America joining the rollout, Tesla appears to have completed the transition globally.

That means virtually every new Model Y currently on sale worldwide now comes equipped with the 16-inch display and black headliner combination, regardless of trim level.

From Performance Exclusive to Standard Experience

When the refreshed Model Y first launched, the larger 16-inch display was initially limited to higher-end models such as Model Y Performance and Model YL.

The larger display quickly became one of the most appreciated interior upgrades thanks to:

  • Better visibility while driving
  • More immersive media experience
  • Improved interface responsiveness
  • A cleaner, more premium dashboard appearance

Today, that experience is no longer exclusive.

What Comes Next for Model 3?

With Model Y’s interior transition now largely complete, attention naturally shifts to Tesla’s next move.

Will Model 3 eventually receive the same black headliner treatment and larger 16-inch display?

Tesla hasn’t confirmed anything yet—but based on recent product direction, owners will certainly be watching closely.
