Tesla FSD v14 Lite Goes Global, Starting With South Korea

South Korea Gets the Global Debut

Tesla just handed South Korea a pretty big honor: it's the first country outside the US to receive FSD (Supervised) v14 Lite. That's a bit of a plot twist, since Canada usually gets new features right after American owners do. This time Canadian HW3 owners are still waiting on the sidelines while Korea leads the charge, which says something about how Tesla is prioritizing this rollout.

Early Access Only, For Now

Right now, this isn't a full nationwide release. Only early access testers with US-built Model 3 and Model Y vehicles running Hardware 3 computers are getting the update first. Tesla's official AI account confirmed the plan is to expand this to all eligible AI3 owners in Korea once the initial group finishes validating it. So if you're in Korea and haven't seen it yet, you're probably just waiting your turn.

Why This Update Is a Bigger Deal Than It Sounds

This is actually the first FSD build for AI3 vehicles in about 14 months, which is a long dry spell for HW3 owners watching newer AI4 cars get all the attention. v14 Lite is essentially a stripped-down version of the main v14 software, built to run on hardware with a fraction of the memory bandwidth of the newer chips. Elon Musk has pointed out before that AI3 computers only have around 15% of the memory bandwidth AI4 has, so squeezing meaningful improvements out of that older hardware is no small engineering win.

A Slow Burn Even in the US

It's worth remembering that FSD v14 Lite only launched for US testers less than two weeks before landing in Korea, and it still hasn't reached wide availability domestically. That pattern suggests Tesla is being deliberate rather than rushing this out everywhere at once. Expect the same cautious pace in Korea, and probably anywhere else it lands next.

Where Could It Go Next

Tesla has already said an international v14 Lite rollout was coming, and there's a good chance it eventually reaches every market where the standard v14 branch already operates. That list currently includes the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark. No official order or timeline has been shared yet, so owners in those regions are mostly left guessing.

Europe Might Be Waiting Longest

European HW3 owners are in a tougher spot. Tesla only applied for regulatory approval for AI4 vehicles in the EU, leaving older hardware out of the original approval process entirely. Some European owners are even pursuing collective legal action over being excluded. Getting regulatory sign-off for HW3 cars in Europe would mean starting that approval process from scratch, so a European release could be a long way off.

What It Means for Owners Everywhere

For HW3 owners outside the US, Korea's rollout is the first real proof that Tesla hasn't forgotten about older hardware. It doesn't guarantee a quick arrival anywhere else, but it does show the company is actively working through the technical hurdles. Anyone hoping for v14 Lite in their region should watch how Korea's rollout unfolds, since it's likely to set the pace for what comes next.
