Tesla Model 3 will also be upgraded with a black headliner and a 16-inch QHD display

Tesla Model 3 will also be upgraded with a black headliner and a 16-inch QHD display

Tesla appears to be preparing another round of interior upgrades for the 2026 Model 3 Premium and Performance trims. After recently updating the Model Y with a darker headliner and larger center display, similar changes are now showing up in backend systems tied to upcoming Model 3 builds.

Although nothing has been officially announced, new configurator asset references and Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) entries suggest that Tesla is already moving forward with these updates.

New Black Headliner Spotted in Configurator Assets

Backend references discovered in Tesla’s EU and China configurator files by X user @Tesla_NL_TR point to a new trim code: IN3PB (Interior 3 Premium Black). The code is associated with a black headliner and has reportedly been mapped to 2026 Model 3 Premium and Performance VINs.

This mirrors a recent change made to the Model Y, where Tesla replaced the lighter grey headliner fabric with a darker black finish. The black headliner gives the cabin a more cohesive and performance-oriented look, especially when paired with black interior trims.

Bringing this update to the Model 3 Premium and Performance variants follows Tesla’s typical rollout strategy—introducing new features on one model before gradually expanding them across the lineup.

16-Inch QHD Display Referenced in EPC

Another notable addition comes from Tesla’s Electronic Parts Catalog. A new entry labeled “Display_16_QHD” has been identified, referring to a larger 16-inch QHD center display.

This display was recently introduced on the refreshed Model Y, offering a slightly larger viewing area and improved resolution. Now, multiple 2026 Model 3 builds connected to this component are marked with a green dot in backend systems. In Tesla’s internal tracking, this often indicates that the hardware is already in production or about to enter production.

If confirmed, the 16-inch QHD screen would represent a meaningful upgrade over the current Model 3 display, aligning it more closely with the latest Model Y interior specifications.

What This Means for 2026 Model 3 Buyers

At this stage, Tesla has not officially announced these interior upgrades. The references have only been found in EU and China configurator assets and internal parts systems. They have not yet appeared on public ordering pages.

However, based on previous Tesla update cycles, backend changes like these typically precede production adjustments by a few weeks. That suggests 2026 Model 3 Premium and Performance builds could begin shipping with the black headliner and 16-inch QHD display in the near future.

For buyers in Europe, North America, and China considering a new Model 3, this may be a good time to watch for VIN assignments and updated spec sheets.

Tesla’s Ongoing Interior Evolution

Tesla has steadily refined the Model 3 interior over the past few years, especially following the Highland refresh. Small but noticeable changes—materials, trim finishes, display improvements—have helped the Model 3 remain competitive in an increasingly crowded EV market.

If the black headliner and larger QHD display are officially confirmed, the 2026 Model 3 Premium and Performance trims will move even closer to the latest Model Y configuration, creating greater consistency across Tesla’s lineup.

As always with Tesla, official confirmation may come quietly—or the first sign could simply be updated vehicles appearing in customer deliveries.

We’ll continue monitoring configurator changes and EPC updates for further confirmation.
