While Driving
Your vehicle will automatically defog or defrost whenever fogging or frosting conditions are detected. Fogging conditions occur when your vehicle’s windshield interior surface is cool and humidity is present, causing condensation to form on the windshield. Frosting conditions occur when the outside temperature is below freezing and precipitation falls on your vehicle’s windshield, causing a frosted layer to form on the windshield.
To manually defog or defrost your front windshield from your vehicle touchscreen, follow these steps:
- Tap the displayed temperature at the bottom of the touchscreen.
- To defog the front windshield, tap the front windshield icon once. The icon will turn blue.
- To defrost the front windshield, tap the front windshield icon a second time. The icon will turn red.
- Tap the front windshield icon a third time to turn it off.

Clearing Snow & Ice
If you preheated your vehicle, clearing snow from the roof should be fairly easy. Since most Teslas have glass roofs, most of the snow on the roof will likely have melted.
Use a soft brush or snow shovel to gently remove any remaining snow from the windshield, rear window, side mirrors, and headlights. Never use hot water, as it may cause the windows to crack.
