Tesla Adds Coastal Blue Paint for Model Y Standard in Europe at €1,300

Tesla Adds Coastal Blue Paint for Model Y Standard in Europe at €1,300

Tesla has quietly introduced a new paint color for the European market. Coastal Blue is now available exclusively for the base Model Y Standard.

The color costs €1,300 (about $1,500 USD). It joins the entry-level trim's lineup alongside Pearl White (included), Stealth Grey (€1,300), and Diamond Black (€1,300).

What Is Coastal Blue?

Coastal Blue is a deeper metallic blue, sitting between the darker Marine Blue and the lighter Glacier Blue seen in other markets. The shade shifts slightly depending on lighting. It looks vibrant in direct sun and more subdued on overcast days.

Some on Twitter noted the color appears inspired by the California coastline. The name certainly fits.

Coastal Blue is currently limited to Europe and only available on the Model Y Standard RWD. Long Range and Performance trims do not offer it.

Why a New Color Now

Tesla phased out Deep Blue Metallic earlier this year. In its place, the company introduced Marine Blue for premium trims and Frost Blue Metallic for Performance models in select markets.

Coastal Blue fills the blue slot for the base Model Y. It costs the same as Marine Blue (€1,300) but is restricted to the Standard trim. This keeps the entry-level car visually distinct from higher trims.

Tesla typically offers only four colors per model at any time: white, black, gray, and one blue. Coastal Blue now holds that blue spot in Europe.

How It Compares to Other Tesla Blues

Deep Blue Metallic (discontinued) was a mid-tone metallic. Marine Blue is darker and more saturated. Coastal Blue is lighter than Marine Blue but darker than Glacier Blue. It is a traditional blue with noticeable metallic flake.

Availability and Ordering

European customers can select Coastal Blue on Tesla's configurator today. Deliveries will come from Giga Berlin, which supplies most Model Y units for Europe.

Orders placed before this change will be fulfilled as originally configured.

Pricing Context in Europe

At €1,300, Coastal Blue is reasonably priced compared to premium colors like Ultra Red or Quicksilver, which cost €2,600. Pearl White remains the only no-cost color on the Model Y Standard in Europe.

The Model Y Standard starts at €39,990 in most European countries. Tesla recently raised prices by about €1,000 due to rebounding demand. Adding Coastal Blue brings the total to roughly €42,000-€44,000 depending on other options.

Will Coastal Blue Come to Other Markets?

Tesla has not announced plans to bring Coastal Blue to North America or Asia. It appears to be a Europe-exclusive for now, similar to how Frost Blue Metallic is limited to North American Performance models.

That could change. Marine Blue started as a Europe-exclusive before expanding. But no timeline exists for Coastal Blue's wider release.

What This Means for European Buyers

If you want a base Model Y in Europe and prefer blue over white, gray, or black, Coastal Blue is now an option at €1,300. It adds a level of exclusivity because it is limited to the Standard trim and to Europe.

Those buying Long Range or Performance should look at Marine Blue instead, which costs the same amount.

Tesla continues to refresh its color lineup. Whether Coastal Blue expands beyond Europe remains to be seen. Orders can be placed now, with deliveries likely in the coming months.

We will track any expansion of Coastal Blue to other markets as more information becomes available.
