Tesla Adds Frost Blue and Marine Blue Paint Options to Model 3 and Model Y in North America

Tesla Adds Frost Blue and Marine Blue Paint Options to Model 3 and Model Y in North America

Tesla has quietly refreshed its North American online configurator with two new exterior paint options for the Model 3 and Model Y: Frost Blue and Marine Blue. The update expands Tesla’s growing lineup of blue shades while also creating a more distinct visual separation between standard and Performance trims.

The move mirrors Tesla’s recent strategy of using exclusive styling cues to differentiate higher-end variants, giving buyers more customization choices while keeping the lineup visually fresh.

Frost Blue Tesla Model 3

Tesla Introduces Frost Blue for Model 3 and Model Y Performance

Frost Blue is now available exclusively on the Tesla Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance in North America.

The color was previously reserved for the Model S and Model X after its debut in mid-2025. However, Tesla discontinued the flagship models earlier this year, making the return of Frost Blue on the Performance versions of the Model 3 and Model Y particularly notable.

Unlike traditional metallic blues offered by Tesla in the past, Frost Blue has a lighter, more premium appearance with subtle silver undertones that shift depending on lighting conditions. The finish gives the Performance models a more upscale and distinctive look without being overly aggressive.

Tesla is also making the color especially attractive from a pricing standpoint. Due to current promotions on the Performance trims, buyers can select Frost Blue at no additional cost. Interior color upgrades are also included as part of the promotion, making the Performance models significantly more appealing for customers considering higher-spec configurations.

Marine Blue Expands Beyond Europe and Asia-Pacific

Tesla has also added Marine Blue to the North American Model 3 and Model Y lineup, though availability is limited to the Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive Premium trims.

Before this update, Marine Blue was only offered in Europe and Asia-Pacific markets. The color has gained attention overseas for its richer and deeper appearance compared to Tesla’s previous blue paint options.

Unlike Frost Blue, Marine Blue is not included in Tesla’s promotional offers. North American buyers selecting the color will need to pay an additional $1,000 USD.

Even with the added cost, Marine Blue could become one of Tesla’s most popular paint options thanks to its more sophisticated appearance and broader trim availability.

Tesla’s Growing List of Blue Paint Colors

Tesla has experimented with several shades of blue across the Model 3 and Model Y lineup over the years. Current and previous blue paint options include:

  • Deep Blue Metallic
  • Glacier Blue
  • Abyss Blue
  • Marine Blue
  • Frost Blue

With Marine Blue now available in North America, Glacier Blue remains Tesla’s final region-exclusive paint option, currently limited to Asia-Pacific markets.

This growing color palette reflects Tesla’s increasing focus on personalization as EV competition intensifies globally.

Standard Tesla Models Still Have Limited Color Choices

While Tesla is expanding paint options for Premium and Performance buyers, the standard non-Premium trims remain limited to three exterior colors:

  • Stealth Grey
  • Pearl White
  • Diamond Black

The restricted palette continues Tesla’s strategy of encouraging buyers to move toward higher-margin trims for additional customization features and premium finishes.

Why Tesla’s New Paint Options Matter

Tesla historically kept its color lineup relatively simple compared to traditional automakers. However, the introduction of more region-specific and trim-exclusive colors signals a shift toward greater product differentiation.

For many buyers, exterior color is one of the biggest factors influencing purchase decisions. Offering exclusive finishes like Frost Blue for Performance models helps Tesla create a stronger identity for its higher-end variants while giving mainstream buyers more reasons to upgrade.

At the same time, expanding Marine Blue into North America aligns Tesla’s global lineup more closely and gives customers access to a color that has already proven popular overseas.

As Tesla continues refining the Model 3 and Model Y lineup, updates like these show the company is paying closer attention to styling, customization, and overall buyer experience—not just software and performance.
