Tesla celebrates 9 million vehicles produced globally

Tesla has officially reached another major production milestone, with its 9 millionth vehicle rolling off the line. The milestone vehicle—a Pearl White Tesla Model Y—was produced at Tesla’s highest-capacity factory to date: Giga Shanghai.

Tesla Asia announced the achievement on its official X account, thanking owners and supporters around the world for their continued support. Gigafactory Shanghai has long been a cornerstone of Tesla’s global operations, serving not only the Chinese domestic market but also acting as a major export hub for the Asia-Pacific region and Europe.

What makes the 9 million–vehicle milestone particularly remarkable is the speed at which Tesla achieved it. Just about six months ago, the company celebrated the production of its 8 millionth vehicle, which rolled off the line at its factory outside Berlin, Germany. This means Tesla produced its most recent one million vehicles in just 207 days, underscoring the company’s sharply accelerating production curve. If current output levels are maintained, Tesla is projected to reach its 10 millionth vehicle around June or July 2026.

Tesla Global Vehicle Production Milestones

Tesla’s production journey highlights the dramatic transformation of the automotive industry in recent years. The company took more than 16 years to build its first one million vehicles, reaching that milestone in March 2020. Production then steadily accelerated: two million vehicles by July 2022, three million just one month later, and four million by March 2023.

Since then, Tesla has been adding roughly one million vehicles every six to eight months.

Tesla’s four vehicle factories—Fremont Factory, Giga Shanghai, Giga Texas, and Giga Berlin—have powered this rapid growth. Among them, Gigafactory Shanghai stands out in particular. Since beginning operations in 2019, the facility has produced nearly half of all Teslas ever built.
