Tesla has quietly rolled out a fresh update to the Model Y lineup built at Giga Shanghai, bringing several noticeable design upgrades across the range. The latest refresh focuses on interior practicality, exterior styling, and wheel design, giving the Model Y a more premium and modern look for global markets including China, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.
The update introduces three major changes: the replacement of the previous white interior, a full blacked-out badge design, and blacked-out 20-inch wheel style. Together, these updates bring the Model Y closer in design language to the larger Model Y L.
Tesla Replaces White Interior with New Zen Grey Interior
One of the biggest changes in this refresh is the discontinuation of the white interior option on all Model Y Premium trims produced at Giga Shanghai.
In its place, Tesla has introduced the new Zen Grey Interior, the same cabin color currently used in the larger Model Y L. This move gives the lineup a more unified production strategy while also addressing one of the most common concerns from owners: maintenance.
Compared with the previous light-colored white seats and trim, the new grey finish is expected to be significantly more resistant to visible dirt, stains, and daily wear. For many owners, especially families and daily commuters, this makes the cabin far more practical for long-term use.
Beyond durability, the updated material also appears to offer a softer and more comfortable feel, adding to the overall premium cabin experience.
Full Blacked-Out Tesla Badges Now Standard
Tesla has also updated the exterior branding with a complete blacked-out badge treatment across the entire Model Y lineup.
This includes the front Tesla logo as well as the rear TESLA lettering and Model Y badging. The darker finish gives the vehicle a sportier and more aggressive appearance, aligning it with the latest styling direction seen on the Model Y L.
Black exterior accents continue to be a popular design trend in the automotive industry, and this update helps the Model Y look more premium straight from the factory without requiring aftermarket modifications.
New 20-Inch Dark Wheels Add a More Aggressive Look
Another standout addition is the new optional 20-inch Dark Helix 2.0 wheel design.
These wheels dramatically enhance the Model Y’s road presence, giving it a sharper and more performance-inspired stance. For buyers who prioritize appearance, this is likely to become one of the most popular upgrade options.
As expected, the larger wheels come with a trade-off in driving range. With this option selected, the Model Y's driving range will be reduced.. However, for many buyers, the visual upgrade may be well worth the slight reduction in efficiency.
Tesla Is Standardizing the Model Y Design Language
This refresh suggests Tesla is moving toward a more consistent design language across the Model Y family.
With the Zen Grey interior and blacked-out exterior details now matching the larger Model Y L, Tesla is clearly streamlining both production and brand identity. This could also help improve manufacturing efficiency at Giga Shanghai while simplifying trim choices for global markets.
As of now, all Model Y variants in these export markets appear to feature the new black badging and Zen Grey interior as standard.
