Tesla Reveals Map of Countries Pending FSD Approval

Tesla Reveals Map of Countries Pending FSD Approval

Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy just shared a clear map of where Full Self-Driving is headed next. The slide, presented at CVPR 2026 in Denver, shows which countries have approved supervised FSD and which are still waiting. The slide was shared on X by Tesla community member @wholemars

If you have been wondering when FSD will show up on your Tesla outside the US, here is what you need to know.

Where FSD Is Already Available

As of June 2026, supervised FSD is live in 11 markets. North America leads with the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. In Asia-Pacific, China, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand have active FSD.

Europe has three approved countries so far: the Netherlands (April 2026), Lithuania (mid-May), and Estonia (end of May). These approvals came through the Dutch RDW, which other EU nations are now using as a template.

Countries Pending FSD Approval: The Next Wave

The pending list covers more than 50 countries across South America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Here is the breakdown by region.

South America – Chile and Colombia are the first two markets where Tesla is actively seeking approval. Neither has a firm date yet, but they represent Tesla's first push into the continent.

Europe (EU members) – The largest pending block includes Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, and about a dozen more. Belgium is fast-tracking, and Sweden has already authorized expanded road testing.

Europe (non-EU) – The United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, and several Balkan nations are also in the queue. The UK remains a major gap with no approval from the DVSA yet.

Middle East – Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey are all pending. Israel's transport minister has said FSD is coming soon. Tesla has been testing in the UAE desert to adapt to heat and sand conditions.

Asia – Japan, India, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Thailand top the list. Tesla aims to launch FSD in Japan by the end of 2026. In India, the software is currently limited to automatic parking only, and full approval will require local driving data.

Africa – Ethiopia is the only African market on the pending list. The country has become an early EV adopter due to high fuel costs, making it a test case for the continent.

Additional pending countries reported include Bangladesh and the Philippines, though Tesla has not confirmed timelines for those markets.

Why Some Countries Get FSD Faster Than Others

Two main factors control the speed of approval. First, regulatory shortcuts. In the EU, once one country like the Netherlands approves FSD, others can recognize that certification. Lithuania approved FSD in just weeks by using the Dutch decision as a reference.

Second, local driving conditions. Markets like India and Japan require Tesla to retrain its neural networks. Road markings, signs, left-hand traffic, and driving behavior are very different from North America. Tesla must collect real-world data in each country, which takes months.

Weather also matters. Desert heat in the Middle East, snow in Scandinavia, and dense urban canyons in Japan all affect how cameras and the AI perform. Tesla tests each region before requesting approval.

What This Means for You as an Owner

If you live in an already approved country, you can subscribe to FSD today. If your country is on the pending list, the wait could be anywhere from a few weeks to a year depending on local regulators.

For owners in Germany, France, or the UK, expect news in the second half of 2026. For India and Japan, late 2026 or early 2027 is more realistic. For smaller markets like Chile or Ethiopia, no clear timeline exists yet.

Tesla switched to a subscription-only FSD model in February 2026, and reaching 10 million active subscribers is tied to Elon Musk's compensation. More countries mean more subscribers, so the push is real.

Check the list above. If your country is not mentioned, it is likely not a near-term priority. But supervised FSD is going global, and the map will keep growing through 2026 and 2027. We will update this article as new approvals are announced.
